REJECTED SHOW | 2026
Exhibit Dates: 8/22/26 thru 9/26/26

Like the Salon des Refusés of 1863 in Paris, Burl Gallery invites the ‘rejects’ of the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition to display their rejected submission and put the authority of judgement back in the hands of their community.

The fine arts department of the Minnesota State Fair presents an annual exhibition that is the result of a juried competition. Participation is open to all living residents of Minnesota, and each may submit one work for consideration. But! Only the works selected by the jurors are displayed in the Fine Arts Center during the exhibition. In 2025, a total of 2,836 pieces were submitted and only 336 were accepted.

TAKE NOTE:

  • We strongly encourage artists to closely monitor their email during this timeframe for important notifications and deadlines.
  • Due to the tight timeline, requests for late submissions or drop-offs will not be accepted under any circumstances.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Artists must have submitted to the 2026 Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Competition and been “rejected”.
  • Artwork submitted to Rejected Show must be the same piece rejected by the State Fair.
  • Artists must upload image of “rejection” e-mail within the submission form.

REVIEW PROCESS

  • Please note it is our goal is to include as many artists as possible; we would love to showcase everyone who applies. However, if submissions exceed available gallery space, a final jurying process may be necessary.
